General FAQs

How much will it cost to build my website?

You might be asking, why is the typical price range ($1,500-$10,000) so wide? A good analogy would be to ask "House much does a house cost?" It varies on where it was built, how much square footage, how it's constructed... you get my drift!

With web design, a four-page website using a template with a small amount of customization is quite different than a custom-designed website with dozens of pages, a members-only area, and a shopping cart.

The majority of websites that I build are in the $2500-$5000 range. Each project is different. Knowing the number of pages and features you want is key. Fill out my project application to help us determine your needs.

How long does it take to design and build a website?

All estimated completion times are approximate.  It is a good rule of thumb to expect the completion of a site to take anywhere from  8-20 weeks after all the content has been provided by you or others you have hired.   I will send you updates periodically as we work.

Timeline example: You provide all your content on May 1st and I’ve estimated 8 weeks to completion, that means your website will be published on or near July 1st. If you have a delay in getting me all your content, that time frame is pushed out accordingly.  If I receive your content on June 1st, your estimated completion is now August 1st.

Do I have to sign a contract?

Yes.  I have a web design contract that must be signed before any project begins.  I do not make any changes/edits to my contract for any reason.

How do I pay you?

All new projects are paid with monthly installments using PayPal.  The first payment is always a non-refundable deposit.

Care plans can be paid with PayPal monthly and canceled at any time.  Annual payments are accepted via PayPal or by check. No refunds are given for annual payments.

Regular design maintenance is billed at my hourly rate of $95 an hour.

Invoices are Net 20.

Do you set up my domain name and web hosting?

It very important that your domain and hosting are in your name for many reasons. I recommend GoDaddy for domain registration and will assist you in setting up an account in your name at GoDaddy or a provider of your choice. There are many options for hosting and we can discuss after you share your specific needs with me.

Can you set up my email?

I don't provide email set up or IT services.  I will link your email on your website and configure your forms to your email account. You will need an IT professional to assist you with set up of your email accounts on your computers and phones.  I have a trusted referral partner I can put you in contact with if you need help!

I need a logo. Do you do branding?

WebCami Site Design does WordPress website design only.  If you need a graphic designer or help with your branding, I have a wonderful professional to introduce you to!

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine's unpaid results—often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results.

Bottom line, it's showing up on Google search.

Do you work with Weeby, Wix, or Squarespace?

WebCami Site Design focuses exclusively on WordPress web design. If you are interested in converting your current website to WordPress, I'd love to chat with you about the advantages of WordPress over other platforms.

I have a WordPress.com site. Can you help me with it?

If you want to convert your site to a self-hosted WordPress site, the answer is YES!

I do not provide services for WordPress.com websites. WordPress has two different delivery methods.  WordPress.com is the retail side of WordPress and a place you can set up and host a website for free.  It's for the do-it- yourself crowd and a great way to get a website up without a big investment.

WordPress.org is where you can download your own version of WordPress on your own hosting (self-hosted) and customized beyond what WordPress.com has to offer. Think of .org as the wholesale version.

All websites designed by WebCami are self-hosted WordPress websites.

Care Plan FAQs

Why does WordPress need updating?

Just like any software that you have on your computer or phone, WordPress needs to be updated on a regular basis. Updated versions are released frequently. Updating your WordPress site may seem cumbersome, but it’s very important.

How much time and what does it cost to fix a hacked site?

Anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks, depending on the size of the site, if you have backups, etc. My hourly rate applies. Worst case your website might need to be rebuilt from scratch and that can cost you as much as you paid for it or more.

Will this guarantee my site won't get hacked or go down?

No. Having a website that is updated and backed up can lessen the odds of a hack, but nothing is full proof when it comes to hacking these days. I can only offer you services that can keep your site updated and backed up. Hosting can go down for many reasons and no hosting company will guarantee 100% uptime.

What if my website does get hacked?

Please do keep in mind that I’m not a 24/7 operation with a team of designers. It’s just me. I will respond as quickly as I can but this doesn’t mean instantly.

First, we roll your website back to an earlier time. In some cases, a maintenance message will be placed on your site while or until I can restore your files. Every case is different and not all fixes are quick. One good note is, I will restore it so you don’t have to! And the restoration of files is included in your WordPress Care Plan.

If your website is badly infected, you may need a service like Sucuri to clean it.  Additional fees will be incurred in the process, but I will assist in setting up what you need to get your website clean.

If my site is hacked and I'm not enrolled, will you still help me?

I will do whatever I can to help you get your site back up!  My hourly rates will apply. The best case is you have good backups to revert to. Worst case, we need to rebuild your entire site.

As I mentioned early, I'm not running a 24/7/365 business.  I may have to work in getting your site back up and running.

How will you manage all these update?

I am making an investment in a product for designers that will allow me to keep an eye on client websites with more control than I’ve ever had before.

I will install the WebCami Care Plan plugin on your dashboard which will allow me to see your site in a management tool that alerts me when you need updates, set and monitor backups, restore your site to an earlier date and run malware scans.

What is priority design time?

Priority support time used to do small content and design updates, WordPress training session or strategy sessions.  Examples include a blog post shared on social media,  additional social media links added to your site, new employee additions, training for a new office worker or a meeting to pick my brain about a new idea you have for your website.

However, please be aware that requests for new features to your website, redesigns, or large content updates will likely result in a formal quote as those commonly go over the monthly dedicated time.

There are no rollovers of time at the end of each month.

1/2 hour and 1-hour blocks are available, however, I limit the number of sign-ups for this feature.

I don't think I can afford this. Can I do it myself?

Are you all about "Do-it-yourself"? Here's a blog post that will walk you through the steps you need to take.

I would encourage you to think of this as an investment that could save you in the long run.  If you are not working on these mundane backups, scans, and updates, you will have more time to work on your own business.

Do I need to sign an additional contract?

Not at this time. My current contract has WordPress services listed as maintenance.

Can I sign up if you didn't build my website?

I would have to review your website to give you an answer.  This will take an hour of time and is billable at $95 an hour.

If I decide your website is within my scope of services and you sign up, I will waive the fee for review.

Client Testimonial

erinmaccoy

Cami is a very talented and visionary web designer. She delivers exceptional results for clients- both for those who know what they are looking for and for those clients who need direction, guidance and patience. She has a keen sensibility of what a client really needs in their website to get their messages and story out, which can be a rare quality at times in designers. I enjoy working with her on smaller projects as well as multi-layered, complex ones. She is so great to work with!
