I’m letting you know about a big upcoming change that affects all clients who operate their businesses in Washington state.
Starting October 1, 2025, Washington state will require service providers like me to collect sales tax on the services I provide. This includes website design projects, care plans, content support, and design updates. One exception is website hosting, which is not classified as taxable. While this is new for web design, it’s part of a much broader change. Many types of service providers across the state are now required to collect sales tax, which might affect you and your own business as well.
If your business is located outside of Washington, this change does not apply to you.

Preparing for the Transition
Since I’ve never had to collect sales tax before, I’ve been setting up a new invoicing system in QuickBooks to handle this. Over the next several weeks, I’ll begin moving clients into this system in small batches. For Washington-based clients, you’ll start seeing sales tax automatically added to your invoices once you’re updated.
This change also means that automatic payments will need to be reset. I’ll share details with each client as their account is transitioned. Because of the scale of this update, it may take me until the end of the year to complete everything.
What This Means for All Clients
Even if you’re outside Washington and won’t be charged sales tax, you’ll still see a change in how invoices are sent. All clients will eventually move to QuickBooks for billing. At the same time, I’ll be rolling out new digital contracts, which will replace the older paper contracts I’ve had stored away in my filing cabinet. This update gives us all a cleaner, more modern system moving forward.
Moving Forward
I know sales tax isn’t the most exciting subject, but I want to be upfront about how this will look on your invoices. Aside from the tax line, nothing about the way we work together is changing. You’ll still get the same services and support, and I’ll still be just a phone call or email away.
I truly appreciate your patience as I make these updates, and I’m grateful for your continued trust. If you have questions about how this change applies to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out at 206-550-7720 or ca**@*****mi.com.
